'The Weekly' highlights magic of annual Angel Tree campaign

News 6 partners with Salvation Army to bring Christmas to thousands

ORLANDO, Fla. – It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Central Florida as News 6 once again teams up with the Salvation Army for the Angel Tree campaign.

The mission is to spread some holiday cheer and make sure children and seniors have gifts for the Christmas holiday.

Salvation Army Capt. Ken Chapman told anchor Justin Warmoth on Sunday's "The Weekly on ClickOrlando.com" that he's excited to experience his first Angel Tree campaign in Orlando.

"Orlando is an amazing city," Chapman said. "The people in this community are caring. It's a very diverse community and we are having a ball."

There are 4,000 angels in need of adoption this year -- 3,500 children and 500 seniors.

"This is the most magical place on Earth and some of it's built on fantasy," Chapman said. "But the reality is that there are people who are making that fantasy work who can't even afford to live."

Donors can choose to adopt an angel from locations across Orange and Osceola counties, including the Mall at Millenia, participating Chick-fil-A restaurants and Hudson's furniture.

News 6 is also hosting a Salvation Army Angel Tree phone bank Tuesday to take donations from giving viewers. Last year, more than $16,000 was raised.

Gifts should be dropped off at the same location by Dec. 9.
