Virginia woman discovers homeless man living in attic

Police took man in custody without incident

A Virginia woman who became suspicious of noises coming from her attic discovered a homeless man had taken residence there.

According to The New York Times, the woman initially contacted her landlord when she heard footsteps, thinking it might be him using the storage space. When he told her it was not him, he called police to investigate. Officers ascended the stairs to the attic upon arrival and called out, asking anyone present to come forward.

Police spokeswoman Ashley Savage said the man "came forward" and "was taken into custody without incident."

Savage said police found a handful of the man's belongings, but didn't have any other details.
