Woman burns down house trying to kill bed bugs

10 people in total were displaced

An Ohio woman accidentally set a five-unit home on fire Friday after she tried to kill bed bugs, reports WXIX-TV.

Fire Chief Randy Freel says the woman was trying to eradicate the bugs with alcohol when it ignited from an open flame. Seven adults and three teens were displaced after the fire, and the American Red Cross is helping them find temporary housing, clothing and meals.

Damage to the building was set a $250,000.

Freel's advice to those trying to get rid of pests? "Get a professional."
