Woman, 74, attacked at Ocoee Publix out of hospital

Victim says stolen credit card used at gas station after attack

OCOEE, Fla. - There was a new lead Sunday night in the search for a man who attacked a 74-year-old grandmother, stealing her purse at an Ocoee Publix.

Charlotte Dunaway said her attacker or his accomplices used her credit card at a gas station nearby the Publix on Silver Star Road shortly after the attack that sent her to the hospital.

It was all caught on surveillance video which shows Dunaway walking inside the store as a man yanks her purse, sending her slamming to the ground, where she was knocked unconscious.

Dunaway hopes sharing her story and putting the man's picture on TV will help police identify him. He's seen on the video leaving the Publix with Dunaway's purse followed by two alleged male accomplices.

Dunaway spent her first night away from the hospital Saturday, after internal bleeding in her head stopped and doctors allowed her to go home.

She told Local 6 she's slowly recovering from a broken collar bone, bruises all over her body and intense pain.

"I could have been killed the way they slammed me, the way he slammed me on that floor and with the head injury I have he could have murder on his hands," said Dunaway.

Ocoee police have yet to reveal if they have any leads on Dunaway's attacker or his alleged partners.
