Woman charged with DUI after striking bicyclist, police say

MELBOURNE, Fla. - Police said a woman was arrested and charged with driving under the influence after allegedly striking a bicyclist near Pineapple Avenue and St. Clair Street Sunday.

The man on the bike called police after the car struck him and failed to stop.

A driver told police the vehicle, driven by Laurie A. Wright, was driving recklessly on North Harbor City Boulevard and almost got into several crashes.

Police said when they made contact with Wright she failed sobriety tests and took breath samples that produced results of a .199 and a .210 blood alcohol level.

Wright is charged with leaving the scene of a crash without giving information, reckless driving, DUI -prior conviction and DUI with property damage or personal injury.

Police said she has a previous DUI conviction.
