Woman says car, home shot up in Volusia County

Deputies seek to ID shooter, vehicle

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – Volusia County deputies want to find a gunman who has a family living in fear.

A single mother told News 6 she walked outside to find bullet holes in her car after a shooting happened right outside her doorstep while her children were sleeping inside her Deltona home.

"I got five holes in my truck," Pauline Whitrock said. "It can't run, and I've got holes in my house."

Whitrock held her four young children close, trying to reassure them they're safe.

"It's scary. My kids don't even want to stay here now," she said. "I don't know what I'm gonna do."

Whitrock said she had just put her kids to bed around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, preparing to take out the trash, when she heard gunfire erupt right outside her home along Brighton Avenue. Once the shots stopped, she went outside to see what happened.

She noticed her car had multiple bullet holes, as did her garage and the walls of her home.

"I walked around my truck and I can smell the gas, and I looked down and you could hear it pouring out of my truck, and I hurried and called 911 and said, 'Someone shot my truck up," Whitrock said. "The way my kids were laying in that bed, they could have shot one of them."

She said she's thankful she and her children were all inside when it happened.

Deputies are now looking through neighbors' surveillance video to track down a suspect or vehicle description.

"This is not right. You targeted a family," Whitrock said. "This is a single mom that's got four kids, little kids."
