Woman sought in smash, grab at Orange County dog park

Deputies say woman broke into victim's car, stole purse

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. - A bizarre break in at a dog park has Orange County deputies looking for the woman responsible.

Deputies say a woman tried cashing a stolen check at a bank in Winter Garden that came from a woman walking her dog at West Orange Dog Park.

The woman told authorities when she got to the park, she put her purse under the front seat of her car and locked her doors. But 45 minutes later when she got back, the passenger side window was smashed in and her purse was gone.

Tim Harris said he comes to the dog park often and was surprised to hear about the break in.

"It's really a shame when you can't go anywhere now a days you have to watch anything and everything in your car," said Harris.

Deputies believe the woman was being watched, so the thief knew exactly where to look.

Raquel Fox said the break ins have also happened recently at a nearby soccer field.

"We've had notices go through the soccer field that say watch your belongings, know where they are," said Fox.

Deputies said if possible, leave your valuables at home. But if you do bring a bag or purse, put it in the trunk of the car before leaving the house.

Deputies said the woman trying to cash the stolen check was driving a gray Toyota with the last three digits of the tag reading "YUD."

Anyone with information or similar cases are asked to call the Orange County Sheriff's Office at 407-254-6810.
