Woman stole items from cemetery, kept them in her yard, St. Cloud police say

Victims will be able to reclaim property

ST. CLOUD, Fla. - A St. Cloud woman was arrested Thursday on suspicion of stealing items from a cemetery and displaying them in her back yard.

Police said Debra A. Farinella, 57, stole more than 100 items, such as decorations, planters, lights and statues, from Mt. Peace Cemetery in St. Cloud and placed them in the yard of her home, which is located in the 1600 block of Vermont Street.

St. Cloud police said six people came forward, saying the various items had been stolen from the cemetery.

"Stuff had been taken off and I replaced it and within two days it would be gone again," said victim Pam Neal, who also works for code enforcement at the St. Cloud Police Department. "Now that she's caught I don't have to worry anymore, I can go buy stuff and not worry about it being stolen again."

Farinella was arrested after a week-long investigation and taken to the Osceola County Jail. She faces grand theft charges.
