Daytona Beach bar owner wins, loses George Zimmerman gun auction

Denny Honeycutt says he was supposed to meet Zimmerman to give him check

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – A Daytona Beach bar owner tells the News Journal newspaper he was the winning bidder in an online auction to buy a gun offered by George Zimmerman.

Zimmerman claims he was selling the gun he used to kill Trayvon Martin in 2012 at a condo complex in Sanford.

Denny Honeycutt, owner of Froggy's Saloon on Main Street, told the newspaper he was supposed to meet Zimmerman at noon Friday to give him a check for $150,000.

He said Zimmerman canceled on him at the last minute, claiming another bid came in with income verification. Zimmerman said that bid was for $250,000.

Honeycutt told the newspaper he sent one last text message to Zimmerman, asking him of the buyer planned to destroy the gun. No word if he got a response.

Zimmerman was found not guilty of murdering Martin in 2013.
