Potentially contaminated dog food sold in Florida

Evanger's voluntarily recalls Hunk of Beef Au Jus dog food

WHEELING, Ill. – Dog food distributed in Florida and several other states has been recalled over possible contamination.

Evanger’s voluntarily recalled Hunk of Beef Au Jus dog food because of pentobarbital exposure in one batch of food in its Wheeling plant.

The dog food was distributed in Florida, Washington, California, Minnesota, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Massachusetts, Maryland, South Carolina and Georgia.

Pentobarbital can affect animals that ingest it, possibly causing drowsiness, dizziness, excitement, loss of balance, nausea or death.

Five dogs became sick, one of which died, after consuming the food.

Consumers with the 12 oz. cans of Hunk of Beef Au Jus should return it to the store where it was purchased for a full refund.

Consumers with questions can call Evanger’s at 847-537-0102.
