3-legged rescue pup in need of donations

12-week-old puppy found off Highway 200

MARION COUNTY, Fla. – The Humane Society of Marion County is hoping to get help in covering medical expenses for a 12-week-old puppy that was found off Highway 200 with a severed leg, a severely injured leg, flea-infested and in need of all-around urgent medical attention.

The dog, named D, was immediately provided medical care by the Humane Society's staff. They stabilized her and got her an X-ray, lab work and medication before preparing her for surgery.

Staff members said once they began prepping D for surgery, they realized necrosis had set in and the only option was to amputate her leg.

D's surgery of 1 1/2 hours was a success and she is expected to make a full recovery, but the organization is now in need of donations to cover the puppy's medical expenses.

The Humane Society runs solely on donations to help animals, and they're now asking the public to help with those financial donations.

A GoFundMe account has been set up on D's behalf. The Humane Society said all proceeds donated through the GoFundMe account will go directly toward D's care. If the amount needed for care is exceeded, however, the additional funds will go toward taking care of other animals at the shelter that are in need.
