ORLANDO, Fla. – The Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando is asking for food donations to help dogs sickened with H3N2, a strain of canine influenza.
Shelter management told News 6 that the facility is in need of wet dog food.

Dogs sickened with H3N2 are only being given wet food, so the shelter is running through cans more quickly than it normally does.
The Pet Alliance is also looking for ingredients to make cold treats for the dogs. Those include regular creamy peanut butter (Xylitol free), pure honey, pure apple sauce, canned sweet potatoes and canned pumpkin.
Anyone wishing to make a donation can drop off cans at the Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando location at 2727 Conroy Road.

The request for food comes just days after the organization was forced to stop all dog adoptions after two dogs tested positive for H3N2 and another 29 dogs showed flu-like symptoms. Officials from the shelter said Wednesday that 8 dogs have now tested positive and 39 others have exhibited symptoms and are being tested.
The shelter is offering $10 flu vaccines Sunday for pets at the Orlando location. The vaccines are on first-come, first-serve bases from 9 a.m. to noon.
The viral infection H3N2 causes a respiratory infection in canines, similar to kennel cough. The virus can infect cats, but it’s not very common.
