Protesters expected at court hearing for man accused of killing puppy

Travis Archer to appear in court Tuesday afternoon

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A Volusia County man charged with beating his dog to death is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday, but Travis Archer won't be alone.

Several protesters are expected to attend the court hearing.

Archer is accused of beating his 9-month-old puppy to death earlier this year.

Archer's attorney is fighting to have some of the evidence thrown out ahead of his trial.

Archer's case has sparked controversy, with a group demanding the maximum punishment for Archer and for tougher laws against those convicted of abusing animals.

Tuesday's hearing is set to begin at 1:30 p.m.
