Solar Bears invite two from Free Agent Camp

Panzo, Chernov Invited to Attend Training Camp

The Orlando Solar Bears, proud affiliate of the NHL's Toronto Maple Leafs and AHL's Toronto Marlies, announced today that they have extended Training Camp invitations to F Matt Panzo and G Ilya Chernov after the two attended Free Agent Camp on September 9.

Panzo (5'10", 170 lbs.) was invited to Solar Bears Training Camp in 2012 and played in both preseason contests against the Florida Everblades that season. He was born and raised in Eustis, Florida (an Orlando suburb), before heading up to Ontario as an eighth-grader to gain more hockey experience. Panzo next skated for Gilmour Academy, a prep school in Cleveland, OH, during the 2010-11 season, and then with the Tampa Bay Juniors in 2011-12, notching eight goals and nine assists for 17 points in 28 games. He was tied for second on the team with two game-winning goals.

Chernov (6'2", 198 lbs.) has played the last three seasons in Russia. He split last season between the MHL (equivalent to Canadian Juniors) and the VHL (primary developmental league for the KHL). In 2012-13, the native of Vladimir, Russia, appeared in 20 games in the Russian Hockey League, which develops players for the VHL and KHL.

Orlando Solar Bears players will report to Training Camp on Friday, October 3, 2014. The Training Camp schedule will be announced in the near future.
