MELBOURNE, Fla. – Sammy Duran couldn't help but smile as he prepared to hit the road for a Southern Conference game against Indian River State College on Wednesday.
After all, the rightfielder made a catch during Tuesday night's 12-2 win that wound up No. 3 on the ESPN's "SportsCenter" Top 10 plays list later that night.
"I knew I could go online and watch it and as I was getting ready to go watch it when coach (Jeff) Tam texted me and said I might be on ESPN's plays of the day and I just could not believe it," Duran, who also hit a home run to lead off the next inning of the game, told News 6 partner Florida Today.
The video was posted by the Eastern Florida State College sports communications department and shared by his teammates and Titans fans with the hashtag that is monitored by ESPN producers and sure enough, within an hour, ESPN had reached out to the department for the video.
Less than an hour later, Duran was watching his catch on ESPN.
"I never thought I would make ESPN, there are so many plays every day, I never thought there would even be a chance of it," Duran said. "I have gotten so many responses and texts today, it is incredible. My coaches from high school texted me and my mom has been telling everyone, she is so happy."

The Melbourne High graduate is no stranger to catches like this one, as the rightfielder admits he had one during a preseason game that was "almost" as good and he won a Gold Glove for his play in center field as a freshman at Eastern Florida State College.

But while the attention is nice, Duran was already getting focused for Wednesday night's game against Indian River State.
"I am just going to go out today and try to get base hits, do whatever the team needs me to do to get another win," Duran said.
