Magic sign Shelvin Mack as first free agent of 2017 off-season

Mack leaves Utah Jazz for 2-year, $12 million contract

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Orlando Magic announced Sunday the signing of free-agent point guard Shelvin Mack.

Mack, 27, who previously played for the Utah Jazz, will likely be a second or third string point guard, playing behind Elfrid Payton.

Mack's contract was reported by ESPN as a $12 million deal for two years, giving the Magic a total of four point guards for the upcoming season.

In Mack's 55 games with the Jazz in the 2016 season, the point guard averaged 7.8 points, 2.8 assists, 2.3 rebounds and 1.6 turnovers per game. Averaging 21.9 minutes per game, Mack shot 44.6 percent from the field, putting up a 30.8 shooting percentage from beyond the arc.

Playing in seven NBA seasons, Mack has appeared in uniforms for Washington, Philadelphia, Atlanta and Utah. 

Mack is the first free agent signed by the Magic's new president Jeff Weltman and general manager John Hammond.
