Chick-fil-A in new Atlanta stadium to be open for 1 NFL game

Restaurant mandates locations closed on Sundays

The Chick-fil-A inside the brand new Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta will be open for one NFL game this season, ESPN writes.

The chicken restaurants are closed on Sundays. Chick-fil-A's website says their founder, Truett Cathy, made the decision to close on Sundays in 1946 when he opened his first restaurant.

"Truett saw the importance of closing on Sundays so that he and his employees could set aside one day to rest and worship if they choose - practice we uphold today," the website says.

The Atlanta Falcons, the stadium's main tenant, play seven of their eight games on Sundays. The team plays a Thursday night game against the New Orleans Saints on Dec. 7, the one day the stand will be open for an NFL game.

Sports Illustrated reports the stadium is also home to the Atlanta United, the city's Major League Soccer team, who plays on other days during the week. The stadium will also host college football and concerts on other days of the week.

According to ESPN, the Chick-fil-A stand will be used to sell other non-branded food items during Sunday events.
