Solar Bears skate to 5-3 win over Stingrays

ORLANDO, Fla. – The forward line of Troy Bourke, Corey Kalk and Brady Shaw accounted for four goals and 11 points as the Orlando Solar Bears (7-3-1-0) skated to a 5-3 win over the South Carolina Stingrays (6-6-0-0) on Saturday night at the North Charleston Coliseum. Orlando has won its third game in a row, and its seventh in its last 10 (7-2-1-0).

Matt Pohlkamp struck first for South Carolina when he received a stretch pass from Christian Horn and beat Martin Ouellette at 2:22 of the first period.

Shaw evened the score at 1-1 for Orlando when he stuffed a behind-the-net pass from Bourke past Adam Morrison at 9:05 for his fifth goal of the season.

Tayler Thompson then gave the Solar Bears their first lead of the night with his first goal of the season at 13:13 after Mathieu Foget made his way down the right wall and fed Thompson in the slot from beneath the goal line.

Shaw netted his second of the game at 1:15 of the second period after he jammed the puck past Morrison at the right post.

Bourke added a goal at 3:06 to make the score 4-1.

Shaw then finished Orlando’s scoring binge to complete the hat trick at 15:18 after Bourke flipped the puck into the slot, allowing Shaw to deke to his backhand before beating Morrison for his third goal of the game and fourth point of the contest.

The Stingrays got two goals in the third period from Grant Besse (5:53) and Nick Roberto (16:28) to reduce the

Ouellette made 36 saves on 39 shots against to earn the victory; Morrison took the loss with 30 stops on 35 shots against.
