Jaguars defensive end Dante Fowler arrested

Defensive end charged with misdemeanor simple battery, mischief

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end and former Florida Gator Dante Fowler was arrested Tuesday night in his hometown of St. Petersburg.

Fowler, 22, faces misdemeanor charges of simple battery and mischief after getting into a confrontation with a man who made a comment about his driving, police said.

An arrest report said Fowler exchanged words with the man before hitting him. The man's glasses were knocked off and Fowler stepped on them before taking a grocery bag, which included liquor, from the man and tossing it in a lake.

Police said the man wasn't injured.

Folwer was arrested at 9:02 p.m. He was released at 1:43 a.m. Wednesday after posting a $650 bond, paid in cash.

Fowler is due to report for training camp on on July 26. Fowler is entering his third year with the Jaguars.

Fowler missed his entire rookie season after a knee injury on the first day of training camp. Last year, he struggled to make an impact with four sacks.

The Jaguars said in a statement that the team is gathering more information.
