ORLANDO, Fla. – The Orlando City Lions have acquired Dom Dwyer from Sporting Kansas City for $1.6 million.

Reports from Kansas City Star reporter Sam McDowell show that of the $1.6 million paid for allocation, $700,000 will be incentives. The incentives fee is the largest fee in MLS history, according to McDowell.
The exact details of the Orlando City trade for the strong forward came for $400,000 in general allocation money, $500,000 in targeted allocation money, in addition to up to $700,000 in future allocation money based on Dwyer's performance with the Lions, according to an Orlando City press release.

"Our group has worked hard to find potential additions to the Club and we are thrilled to finalize this deal and add an important piece to the roster in Dom,” Orlando City SC CEO Alex Leitão said in a press release. “Dom is a fantastic player who recently gave us a glimpse of what he is capable of with the U.S. Men’s National Team and will keep doing so with the Club and at the MLS All-Star game next week.”
Coming off a big game with the U.S. men's national team in the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup, the former University of South Florida soccer player is joining Orlando City for the second time in his career. Dwyer became a United States citizen in March, scoring 19 minutes into his debut with the national team July 1 against Ghana.
“Dom adds tremendous strength to our attack. He brings speed, energy and strong technical ability,” general manager Niki Budalic said in the press release. “He has grown as a player over the years into one who is a threat whenever he’s on the field.”
First starting with Orlando City in March 2013 when the Lions were a USL Pro team, Dwyer scored a record-setting 15 goals in 13 games before heading to Kansas City.

Loaned back to the Lions for the USL Pro Championship in 2013, Dwyer scored four goals in the Lions' 7-4 win. Dwyer was drafted in the first round of the 2012 MLS SuperDraft, scoring three goals in the 21 games he appeared in for Kansas City in the 2013 season, of which they won the MLS Cup championship.
Starting in 31 of his 33 games he's recorded minutes in, Dwyer scored a league second-highest 22 goals in 2014. His 2015 season was no small success either, scoring 12 goals in 30 MLS games and 16 goals in his 33 appearances in 2016.
Since 2012, Dwyer has the fourth most goals in the MLS with 57. Dwyer was born in Cuckfield, England.
