ORLANDO, Fla - Get excited Knights basketball fans, the 2017 campaign is officially underway.
Monday afternoon was the team's first official practice of the year.
Speaking to the media before practice began, Head Coach Johnny Dawkins had an encouraging report on the team and their attitudes heading into the season.
"They've been excited. I don't think they slept very well this weekend in anticipation of practice," Dawkins told the media. "And that's how it should be. This is a great time in their lives. They're at an amazing institution, getting a great education and playing a sport that they love. It should be exciting."
Coming back from one of the most successful seasons in team history, there are a number of factors about this years squad that should excite fans going into 2017.
Leading scorer, B.J. Taylor, and six of the teams top nine minute earners all return from the team that made it all the way to NIT Semifinals a year ago.
Reigning conference Defensive Player of the Year Award Winner and popular 7-6 center Tacko Fall returns for his junior season, after flirting with entering early into the NBA Draft.
Replacing recent Miami Heat roster signee, point guard Matt Williams, is highly touted Michigan-transfer guard Aubrey Dawkins--who also happens to be the head coach's son.
The Knights first game is Nov. 10 at home against Mercer, but fans have a chance to see them as early as next week for the teams "Homecoming Hoops on the Plaza" fan event Oct. 13 at 7:30 p.m.
