ORLANDO, Fla. – On Monday, the Miami Heat signed a new player to its team, and he's no stranger to Florida or the Orlando area.
Former University of Central Florida men's basketball player and 3-point sharpshooter Matt Williams inked a deal that will put him in the NBA this coming season. He is joining a team that has seen several changes to it's roster this off-season. The details of his contract have not yet been disclosed.

The former student of UCF coach Johnny Dawkins shined in both the Orlando and Las Vegas Summer Leagues. Averaging 9.9 points and 2.6 rebounds per game, Williams shot 38 percent from the field and 39 percent from beyound the arc.

Starting in all six games in Las Vegas, Williams shot 45 percent from beyond the arc, leading the Miami Heat in 3-pointers, including one performance in which the former Knight went 5-8 from downtown. But that wasn't his most impressive performance, as the newest member of the Heat went 6-9 from 3-point range against Memphis on July 15.
Williams finished his college career with the Knights as the No. 18 player in program history to record 1,000 points, and appeared in 36 games as a senior. Averaging 15.1 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 36.5 minutes per game, the former Knight also set the American Athletic Conference record for most 3's in a single season, with 126.
