ORLANDO, Fla. – After helping lead her team to the women's basketball NIT tournament in the 2016 campaign, the efforts of alum Josyln Massey haven't gone unnoticed.

But it wasn't her efforts just on the court that led to her nomination, but also her decisions off the court that led to her nomination for the 2017 NCAA Woman of the Year award.

Playing from 2015-17 for the Knights, Massey averaged 7.1 points per game, 7.1 rebounds per game and started in 38 games of her 61 total appearances.

Off the court, Massey spent over 72 hours volunteering, including time spent for entire entire days mentoring youth in the area. The alum earned her degree in interdisciplinary studies with a minor in mass communication. She is currently trying to earn a second degree in mechanical engineering.

For the award process, the first round of elimination to determine the winner will happen when the American Athletic Conference selects two nominees to represent the AAC.

In August, the Woman of the Year committee will then select the top 10 honorees in each division from the group of 544 women. In September, the committee will then select the final nine finalists (three from each division of college athletics), allowing the committee to then select the winner of the 2017 Woman of the Year.

According to UCFKnights.com, the top 30 honorees will be honored in Indianapolis on Oct. 22, where the winner will also be crowned.
