ORLANDO, Fla. -  UCF quarterback Blake Bortles was selected to the Maxwell Award Watch List  by the National College Football Awards Association.

The Maxwell Award honors the best college football player in the country.

Named in honor of Robert W. "Tiny" Maxwell, the award has been given to America's College Player of the Year since 1937. Semifinalists will be announced Oct. 29, while the three finalists will be unveiled Nov. 25. The winner of the 2013 Maxwell Award will be announced as part of the Home Depot ESPNU College Football Awards Show held on Dec. 12.

Bortles helped guide UCF to a 10-4 record and its second straight bowl victory in his first year as a starter in 2012.  The Knights averaged 35.4 points per game, which was the fifth-highest mark in school history. The 496 points scored were just six shy of the all-time record, while UCF set the school mark with 61 offensive touchdowns.
