News 6 is No. 1 at 11 p.m. in February ratings

WKMG-TV makes other gains, too


ORLANDO, Fla. – With big year-to-year increases in key demographics and time periods, News 6 (WKMG-TV) is getting results opposite competitors’ declines.

News 6 ended the February 2016 Nielsen ratings period (February 4 to March 2) with big gains in key dayparts, and a strong win in the 11 p.m. news race among key demographics, households and total viewers.

LATE NEWS: No. 1 in Adults 25-54, Women 25-54, Adults 18-49, Adults 25-49 and Adults 35-64.

News 6 won the 11 p.m. news race with a solid lead over WFTV-TV, the second-place finisher among Adults 25-54. WKMG-TV won 14 of 28 nights in the sweep period with Adults 25-54 (11 of 20 weeknights), more than any other station.  News 6 is the only local station delivering year-over-year gains among Adults 25-54 (up 15 percent) and Women 25-54 (up 25 percent) Monday through Friday.

No. 1 with Households/Total Viewers.  News 6 at 11 p.m. won with a wide lead in Households and Total Viewers (83,544 on WKMG-TV, 63,799 on WESH-TV, 56,357 on WFTV-TV and 15,766 on WOFL-TV). 

Since April 2015, News 6 has been the most watched local newscast in Central Florida in total viewers every month.


News 6 at 6 p.m. also delivered notable gains in key demographics.

• WKMG-TV is the only station delivering gains in early newscasts among Adults 25-54 and Women 25-54.

• At 5:30pm, News 6 is up 29 percent with Adults 25-54, while WFTV-TV is -36 percent and WESH-TV is  -41 percent. News 6 narrowed a 1.0 rating gap with WESH-TV to .1 year-to-year.
• At 6 p.m., News 6's growth was 30 percent over last February, opposite declines for WFTV, WESH and WOFL.
• News 6 was No. 1 six of 20 weeknights in the February sweep, second only to WFTV-TV in nightly wins in the demo.


• In February, News 6 surpassed WESH-TV at 5 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. in Total Viewers.


In February, WKMG-TV won prime time among Adults 25-54, Adults 18-49, Households and Total Viewers! WKMG-TV delivered the top Adults 25-54 ratings for scripted series in February:

•"The Big Bang Theory" was once again the top comedy, followed by "2 Broke Girls" and "Mike & Molly." 
•"Criminal Minds" was the top drama; "Code Black," "Madam Secretary" and "Scorpion" joined "Minds" as four of the top five prime-time dramas.
•"Survivor" returned as a top prime-time series, and was No. 2 in Feb among Adults 18-49, trailing only "The Voice’s" Monday season debut.
•WKMG-TV also delivered some of February’s most thrilling moments, with the month’s most watched event, Super Bowl 50, on February 7, and the 58th Annual Grammy Awards on February 15.
