17-foot long python captured in Florida

120-pound reptile caught as part of Python Elimination Program

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – It was a big catch in South Florida.

A hunter snagged a massive python measuring 17 feet long. 

Officials with the South Florida Water Management District said Kyle Penniston, of Homestead, made the solo capture late Monday night. 

Penniston was hunting as part of the state's Python Elimination Program. 

Officials said the snake weighed 120 pounds. 

Wildlife experts said hunters have now eliminated 1,859 of the invasive snakes.
