An arrest report says the teen's parents discovered "inappropriate messages" the boy and his girlfriend had exchanged. But the couple continued dating.

Citing the arrest report, the newspaper says the teen attempted to make a homemade firebomb. Many of the details are redacted in the arrest report.

During Sunday's altercation with his parents, the gun went off and Santa Rosa County sheriff's officials say the father suffered a leg injury that is not considered life-threatening.

The teen is being held without bond.
