Florida man admits to shooting up heroin while running from deputies

Body camera video shows K-9 taking suspect down

MARION COUNTY, Fla. – Marion County deputies say a man wanted for grand theft and burglary shot up heroin while leading them on a chase.

According to the sheriff's office, deputies served a warrant for John Stephens on Monday at a home in Silver Springs. Stephens ran into a family member's car and drove away, deputies said.

Deputies chased the car before Stephens got out and started running, according to authorities. Moments later, a K-9 named Tipster took him down, allowing deputies to make an arrest.

Body camera video shows Stephens admitting to injecting heroin during the chase, then apologizing to deputies.

Stephens faces a list of felony charges.
