Amanda Castro joined the News 6 team in November 2015. She was promoted to Weekend Morning Anchor in April of 2016. She is no stranger to the Sunshine State. She grew up in Lakeland and graduated from the University of Central Florida in 2012. Go Knights! Three months after graduation, Amanda moved to the "Song and Soul of the South" to report and anchor for the NBC affiliate in Macon, Georgia, WMGT. She worked there for three years and covered many important stories to the community, including the political strife in Gordon and the controversial Macon police officer-involved shooting. While in Macon, Amanda earned the Georgia Association of Broadcasters GABBY Merit Award for "Best On-Air Personality." She was also selected as a member of the inaugural "30 Under 30" class for the UCF Alumni Association. Amanda is also no stranger to News 6. She interned at the station in Fall 2011 and is excited to be back! She also worked as a reporter and web producer for FM 96.5 News/Talk WDBO. While there, she covered the Casey Anthony murder trial and the Trayvon Martin shooting death. Amanda knew she wanted to be a reporter since she was in the fifth grade. That year she won her school district's "Best Co-Anchor" award and the rest is history. She is married to her husband, Michael, and they live together with their son, Andrew, and rescue cat, Lily. When she's not working, Amanda loves to read (she's a huge Harry Potter fan!), spend time with friends and family, go shopping, volunteer, hang out by the pool, and play with her cat. Amanda loves to tell stories, especially ones that are important to you and impact Central Florida. She believes in telling clear and accurate stories, and she wants to be your trusted source for news.
