New drone regulations in Orlando move forward

Proposal bans drones from schools and theme parks

ORLANDO, Fla. – New rules restricting the use of drones in Orlando moved a step closer to reality.

The Orlando City Council on Monday approved the first reading of the proposed policy, which would create a permitting process for pilots hoping to fly drones above the city. It would also formally ban drones from areas like schools, theme parks, stadiums and public events.

The second reading and adoption, if approved, will most likely be at the next City Council meeting on Jan. 9.
