'Super Girl' drone donated to Volusia County Sheriff's Office

Family donates device to help deputies find victims more quickly

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The family of a Volusia County crash victim hopes to help deputies get results with a special donation.

Carly Bowie, 21, died in December 2016 after her pickup truck swerved off a bridge and crashed into the Tomoka River.

Deputies quickly recovered Bowie's truck, but it took the dive team 34 hours to recover her body.

Recently, Bowie's uncle, Thomas Dougall donated a DJI Phantom 2 Vision Quadcopter to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office, in Carly's memory.

Dougall hopes the drone will help authorities find missing persons quicker.

The drone is named "Super Girl," Dougall's nickname for Bowie.
