Universal Orlando construction signals return of 'theme park wars'

Possible Harry Potter expansion, Transformers ride could be in the works

ORLANDO, Fla. – As construction continues at Universal Orlando, park officials are keeping their new projects under wraps.

Cranes and steel girders that have appeared at the park in the last six weeks have raised suspicions of what new addition will be made to Universal, but the park has not announced what the construction is for.

Matt Roseboom of Orlando Attractions Magazine said he has seen the construction rising nearly everyday at Universal, and believes the project will soon be a Transformers 3-D ride similar to one at Universal Studios Hollywood.

"There's been a lot of construction and it's unusual for it to go on this long without Universal announcing what it is," Roseboom says.

This construction is one of several recent theme park construction projects happening in Central Florida, as Disney has significantly updated Magic Kingdom's Fantasyland and SeaWorld Orlando will be opening Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin in spring 2013.
