Disney posts 'Star Wars' lands construction photos

'Star Wars' land to open in 2019

ORLANDO, Fla. – Disney shared a first look Thursday of its "Star Wars"-themed land currently under construction at Hollywood Studios at Disney World and Disneyland.

The 14-acre attractions were announced in 2015 and are under construction at the parks. Disney said the lands will include attractions and entertainment with aliens and droids. The attractions represent the parks' largest single-themed land expansion ever.

Disney posted a photo of construction at the parks of two life-sized All-Terrain Armored Transport combat vehicles known as AT-AT walkers.

The four-legged AT-AT walkers are used in "Star Wars" by the imperial ground forces, according to StarWars.com.

In a blog post, Disney revealed new details of the signature attractions at both "Star Wars" land locations.

One feature will let guests control a Millennium Falcon spaceship navigating through a customized secret mission. Another attraction will put guests in the middle of an epic battle between the First Order and the Resistance.

The lands will feature a remote trading port, “one of the last stops before wild space,” according to the Disney Parks blog.

Both "Star Wars" lands at Disney World and Disneyland are scheduled to open in 2019.

A new "Avatar"-themed world, “Pandora” at Disney World’s Animal Kingdom, is set to open on May 27.
