Cirque du Soleil ending 'La Nouba' show at Disney Springs

Cirque du Soleil announced Friday that the gravity defying acrobatics of "La Nouba" will be leaving the Disney Springs tent at the end of the year.

After more than 8,500 performances the Cirque staple show since 1998, the final performance will be on Dec. 31, according to the Disney Parks Blog.

“We are incredibly proud of the success that 'La Nouba' has had for nearly two decades,” senior vice president of the Resident Shows Division for Cirque du Soleil Jerry Nadal said. “We want to thank Walt Disney World Resort for a wonderful run over the years. We look forward to announcing what’s next.”

"La Nouba" was the first show to have permanent performances outside of Las Vegas, according to the Quebec-based company.

Disney Springs marketing manager Darcy Clark said in a blog post that the company may soon have news to share about new entertainment coming to Disney Springs.

Cirque du Soleil officials did not say why the company was ending the longest running show.

A "La Nouba" performer at Disney Springs was seriously injured on Oct. 20 after falling during an aerial rehearsal.

A 911 call recorded moments after performer Karina Silva, 39, fell revealed that she tumbled 30 to 40 feet while rehearsing on the aerial silk.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration investigated the incident.
