At least two Brevard County sheriffโs crime scene vans, multiple patrol cars and several deputies were lined in front of the home in the 6700 block of Grissom Parkway. Brevard County sheriffโs officials did not respond to inquiries about the situation or whether it is a public safety matter. Sheriffโs investigators were seen questioning nearby residents about the occupants of the home where the crime scene vans were parked. No other information was available Thursday.
Motorcyclist collides with 11-year-old girl on bicycle on U.S. 1 in Port St. John
BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. โ A motorcyclist collided with an 11-year-old girl who was riding a bicycle Saturday afternoon in Port St. John, Brevard County Fire Rescue Chief Mark Schollmeyer told News 6 partner Florida Today. The crash occurred just after 4:10 p.m. on U.S. 1 near Walgreens, at the Palm Street intersection. | Florida head coach tests positive]The motorcyclist, an unidentified man in his 60s, was transported via medical helicopter to Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne, Schollmeyer said. The girl suffered minor injuries, and she was taken to Parrish Medical Center for treatment and evaluation. Schollmeyer did not have further details Sunday afternoon.
Brevard deputy involved in crash while responding to another wreck
BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. โ A Brevard County sheriffโs deputy was involved in a crash Tuesday while they were responding to an unrelated traffic wreck, a spokesperson for the sheriffโs office said. The deputy was responding to a vehicle and pedestrian crash on Fay Boulevard in Port St. John when the crash occurred, authorities said. The deputy was taken to a local hospital and expected to be OK. The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
Court: Florida man stood his ground in deputy shooting
VIERA, Fla. โ Citing the Stand Your Ground law, the Fifth District Court of Appeals dismissed the longstanding charges against a Port St. John man accused of shooting a Brevard County Sheriffโs deputy during a botched arrest in front of his home in 2015. The decision, issued Wednesday, ends the prosecution of John DeRossett, 60, on the attempted premeditated first-degree murder of a law enforcement officer while discharging a firearm, News 6 partner Florida Today reported. DeRossett spent nearly five years at the Brevard County Jail Complex in Sharpes as he awaited a trial. Florida Today reached out to Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey for comment, but no statements have been released. Prosecutors and Brevard County sheriffโs investigators said DeRossett opened fire at deputies who were arresting his niece on a prostitution charge.
