Beijing experiences record-breaking warming ahead of Winter Olympics
The Winter Olympics are about to begin. This week on Forecasting Change we look at the warming in the Winter Olympic locations in the last 50 years. Over that period, the 19 different host cities have warmed 4.8 degrees Fahrenheit. That is about three times the global average!
For some bobsled hopefuls, the Olympics may be a click away

Bobsled worlds moved to Germany over coronavirus worries
This seasonโs bobsled and skeleton world championships were awarded to Altenberg, Germany, and moved out of Lake Placid, New York, on Tuesday because of concerns about the coronavirus pandemic and potential travel complications. The International Bobsled and Skeleton Federation said it made the move โto protect the health of athletes and spectators across the globe.โ Lake Placid will be awarded the 2025 world championships instead. The IBSF plans to release the updated schedule for the entire bobsled and skeleton season, including World Cup races, later Tuesday. Most of the athletes in the world championships would be coming from Europe. Altenberg played host to bobsled and skeleton worlds this past season as well; Germany won gold medals in menโs skeleton, womenโs skeleton, two-man bobsled and four-man bobsled.
Missing 84-year-old man found, deputies say
MARION COUNTY โ The Marion County Sheriffโs Office said an 84-year-old man that went missing Saturday afternoon has been found. Deputies were searching for David Walsh, who was last seen on surveillance video at a Publix in Lake Placid on Saturday before being located Sunday. Walsh, who was wearing a blue polo shirt, blue-green dress pants and white tennis shoes, suffers from dementia.
