Downtown Orlando parking to be affected by I-4 construction

Demo work forces the temporary closure of some parking spaces

ORLANDO, Fla. – Downtown Orlando commuters may notice parking changes in the coming weeks.

Now that the holidays have passed, work is expected to intensify in the Downtown area. Workers are demolishing parts or the current bridges that are being replaced as part of the six year project.

I-4 Ultimate Spokesperson, Dave Parks, says the work in the Downtown area will force the temporary closure of some parking under I-4.

"When we're working overhead, doing some demolition work, we defiantly don't want to have anything falling on people's vehicles."

Parks says individual rows will be closed as necessary between Church Street and Robinson.

"The parking row that you've been using the last five years, you may come in on a Monday and that individual row is closed," Parks says the plan is to only close those spots where work is being done. "We want to be sure we're being good neighbors, making as many of these spaces available to people while we're doing the work we need to do."

Parks says daytime closures of Church Street should also be expected in the coming months.
