Westbound 408 entrance ramp relocated

Access from Orange Ave. closed

ORLANDO, Fla. – This morning marked another big step in the six-year-long process that is the I-4 Ultimate Improvement Project.

The Florida Department of Transportation is opening an entrance ramp to westbound State Road 408 from Division Avenue and closing the entrance ramp from Orange Avenue.

David Parks, spokesman for the I-4 Ultimate construction project, says to expect more heavy equipment in the downtown area around the State Road 408 interchange.

"The reason for that closure is that opens up some space so we can demo out the existing ramp and start to have space to rebuild that I-4 408 interchange," said Parks.

If you're used to getting on State Road 408 west coming southbound from Orange Avenue or northbound on Rosalind Avenue, use South Street then turn left onto Division Avenue. The entrance will be on your right.

Coming north on Orange Avenue, turn onto Gore Street then right on Division. The entrance will be on your left.

An entrance ramp from Orange Avenue will eventually return in 2019.

This weekend there will also be rolling roadblocks overnight in the westbound lanes. Roadblocks will begin after midnight from Par Street all the way to Kirkman Road. Onramps will be blocked and traffic will show to 5 mph. Workers will be installing steel girders over the interstate, and traffic needs to be clear for safety.

The Florida Department of Transportation is also temporarily closing the westbound on ramp to Interstate 4 from Maitland Boulevard. (Eastbound). Access to westbound I-4 will be detoured to the westbound Maitland Avenue ramp.
