Florida Highway Patrol said the crash was reported on eastbound I-4 at mile marker 131 just before Interstate 95 in Daytona Beach at 9:30 a.m.

Troopers said the crash started with one vehicle rear-ending another vehicle on the eastbound lanes, and three other vehicles, including a tractor-trailer, tried to avoid the first collision and also crashed.

The tractor-trailer crashed through the center guardrail and came to a rest on the inside shoulder of westbound lanes, according to troopers.

Three people were taken to the hospital, one of whom is in critical condition.

Eastbound lanes reopened just before 2 p.m. Friday.

The crash remains under investigation.
