Father killed, son injured in I-4 hit-and-run in Volusia

FHP investigates separate fatal crash in Seminole County

ORMOND BEACH, Fla. – A father was killed and his son was injured late Saturday in a hit-and-run on Interstate 4 in Volusia County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers identified the driver as Thomas Reece, 47, of Ormond Beach. His 9-year-old son suffered serious injuries in the crash, the FHP said.

According to troopers, Reece was traveling on I-4 when another car changed lanes and sideswiped his vehicle, causing Reece's vehicle to run off the road, where it struck a tree, overturned and caught fire.

Few details were available about the other car.

In Seminole County, a driver traveling north on Tuskawilla Road late Friday lost control of his car and struck a tree and a power pole, the FHP said.

The passenger, Adam Casiano, 22, of Winter Springs, died in the wreck, troopers said.

The driver, identified by the FHP as John Cabrera, 25, of Orlando, was taken to a hospital but was not seriously hurt, troopers said.

Charges are pending against Cabrera.

Both crashes remain under investigation, officials said.
