Woman walks into traffic in Pierson, FHP says

PIERSON, Fla. – A Florida Department of Transportation worker was struck by a vehicle and injured Tuesday in Volusia County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash was reported on State Road 40 at Warransford Road in Pierson.

Troopers said a contractor was clearing trees near SR 40, and officials were directing traffic in the area.

A woman who was wearing a safety vest arrived at the site, got out of her vehicle and started talking to the workers clearing the trees, the FHP said.

Troopers said she walked in front of traffic and was struck by a vehicle. She was taken as a trauma alert patient to Halifax Hospital.

The driver will not face charges, the FHP said.
