Woman, granddaughter, other driver killed in Lake County crash

Woman worked at, daughter attended Montverde Academy

CLERMONT, Fla. – A 56-year-old woman, her 3-year-old granddaughter and another driver were killed Sunday in a Lake County crash, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The FHP said the fatal crash was reported about 4 p.m. on County Road 455 near High Crest Court.

Troopers said James Walker, 22, was driving a 2011 Jaguar northbound on C.R. 455 when he crossed into the other lane for an unknown reason and struck a 2010 Infiniti SUV, killing Debra Irwin and her granddaughter, Fallon Painter.

Walker and Irwin died at the scene, the FHP said. Painter was flown to Arnold Palmer Hospital in Orlando in critical condition and was later pronounced dead, the FHP said.

Irwin worked for Montverde Academy, where her daughter attended school, officials said.

"We are saddened to report that Lower School Assistant Debbie Irwin and her granddaughter, and lower school student, Fallon Painter, passed away this afternoon in a vehicle accident. Both Debbie and Fallon were deeply loved by the MVA family. Please keep the Irwin and Painter families in your thoughts and prayers," the school posted on its Facebook page.

The crash remains under investigation.
