19-year-old killed in 3-car crash, troopers say

FHP: Two others injured in crash

WEKIVA SPRINGS, Fla. – A 19-year-old man has died following a three-car crash early Sunday morning, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Christopher Merwin, of Altamonte Springs, was driving south on Wekiva Springs Road while another driver was traveling east on Lake Brantley Road, troopers said. A third driver was traveling north on Wekiva Springs Road.

Merwin ran a red light and struck the side of the car on Lake Brantley Road, the Highway Patrol said. The second driver's vehicle then flipped over.

Merwin continued through the intersection and then struck the side of the third driver's car, according to troopers.

Merwin was transported to Florida Hospital Altamonte, where he later died from his injuries, the FHP said.

The passenger in Merwin's car suffered minor injuries, and the driver of the second vehicle was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center for critical injuries, troopers said.

The crash remains under investigation.
