KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Florida Highway Patrol shut down the Florida Turnpike in Kissimmee Saturday afternoon because of a wildfire in the area, troopers said.
Troopers decided to close all north and southbound lanes of the turnpike around 2:45 p.m.
"This road closure is due to a wildfire in the area and FHP has determined the visibility in the area is not safe to travel on the Florida Turnpike at this time," Trooper Steven Montiero said.
Traffic was being diverted northbound at mile marker 193, which is State Road 60, and southbound at the mile marker 244, which is Kissimmee Park Road, the Highway Patrol said.
