EDGEWATER, Fla. – A 48-year-old woman was struck and killed while she tried to cross a road in Volusia County, officials said.
The fatal crash was reported at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday on South Ridgewood Avenue near West Indian River Boulevard in Edgewater.

Police said a 67-year-old Edgewater man was driving a 2007 Jeep south on Ridgewood Avenue when he struck Carrie A. Chandler.
Chandler was taken to Florida Hospital in New Smyrna Beach, where she was pronounced dead, police said.
An investigation is continuing.
