'Leprechauns' to nab speeders in Flagler County
Sheriff issues warning to drivers
FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. – Deputies in a Central Florida county donned costumes Friday as they searched for speeding drivers.
Flagler County deputies were stationed in the area of Palm Coast Parkway and I-95 at 1 p.m. They will be on State Road 100 near Colbert Lane from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
In a statement, Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly said, "Beware of the Leprechaun. Don't let him take your pot of gold. Once you see him, it will be too late."
The Sheriff's Office said it is taking a light-hearted approach on St. Patrick's Day, but added that it takes speeding very seriously and encourages everyone to pay attention and obey the law.
“Our traffic safety efforts include enforcement, education and awareness,” Staly said.
In years past, deputies in other Florida counties have posed as the Grinch, Santa's elves and other characters while nabbing speeders.
