Orlando to close downtown parking lots under I-4

Area to be turned into a park

ORLANDO, Fla. – Parking in downtown Orlando could soon be more difficult.

Two parking lots under Interstate 4 are shutting down Monday for good.

The lots are across from the old Orlando Police Headquarters and the federal courthouse.

The closures are in addition to a third lot across from the Amway Center that closed in 2015.

The construction is part of the I-4 Ultimate Project, a 21-mile overhaul of the interstate through Central Florida.

Once the construction is complete, the city plans to turn the land into a park with everything from soccer fields to a dog park.

The city of Orlando is telling drivers to use other nearby garages. A list of those garages is available here.
