Man, woman in 70s die in Flagler crash

83-year -old Palm Coast driver suffers critical injuries

FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. – A man and woman in their 70s were killed Sunday in a single-vehicle crash in Flagler County, and charges are pending against the 83-year-old driver, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The double fatal crash was reported at 5:22 p.m. on Hammock Dunes Boulevard.

Troopers said Arthur Thornton, of Palm Coast, was driving a Lexus east when the vehicle veered left, went off the road and struck a tree.

Thornton was critically injured and taken to Halifax Hospital, the FHP said.

His passengers, a 75-year-old man and a 77-year-old woman, both of Poinciana, were taken Florida Hospital, where they died, troopers said. Their names have not been released.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
