Woman returns to scene 45 minutes after killing pedestrian, FHP says

24-year-old faces charges in fatal crash

ORLANDO, Fla. – A 24-year-old Orlando woman faces charges after she hit and killed a man in Orange County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The FHP said Denny Weaver, 52, of Orlando, died in the crash, which was reported at 12:08 a.m. Monday on Orange Blossom Trail at 39th Street.

The FHP said Nyasha Powell was driving a Dodge Dart north on OBT when Weaver, who was in the center median, failed to yield to the vehicle, started to cross the road and was struck.

Weaver was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said.

Powell drove away but returned to the scene about 45 minutes later, the FHP said. Charges are pending against her for leaving the scene of a crash, the FHP said.

Powell was not injured in the crash.

Troopers initially identified the driver as 21-year-old Ariel Powell, the sister of Nyasha Powell. Ariel Powell owns the Dodge Dart but was not driving, the FHP said.
