I-4 west to close for hours for pavement repairs

Highway to shut down from Colonial Drive to State Road 408

ORLANDO, Fla. – Transportation officials are preparing for a major shutdown of Interstate 4 in Orange County as part of The Big Drive construction project.

The closure will impact the westbound side of I-4 from Colonial Drive to State Road 408 in Orlando. All westbound lanes will be closed starting midnight Monday.

Department of Transportation officials said the closure is needed so crews can make pavement repairs and replace reflective markers.

The shutdown means drivers heading west will have to exit I-4 and travel down Orange Blossom Trail, then get back on the highway.

Crews told News 6 the road should be reopened by 5 a.m. Tuesday.

The Big Drive is a seven-year, $2 billion construction project on a 21-mile stretch of I-4 through Central Florida.
